Being a Jill of all Trades

by Claire Martinsen on Mon 13th Jun 2011 11:01

Ah isn’t running a micro-business fab!  It’s just like living a dozen lives all at once……constantly swapping hats and being a bit of a jill of all trades!

A day catching up on paperwork today and these are the hats I’ve worn so far………

  • Purchasing Director…………finding a new supplier for one particular part of my business.  Involving talking and speccing out my requirements to a short list of recommendations.
  • Lawyer………..Trade Mark matters, someone is trying to register a trade mark very close to mine.  Have had to submit a TM7a [notice of intention to persue] and today was more work on that front.  Their Trade Mark Attorney seems keen to settle amicably, so fingers crossed.
  • Customer Service………..customer orders, paperwork to raise, invoices to send.  Also filling out a particularly difficult new product line form for one new customer [x6!]
  • Book-keeper………….paying various invoices
  • Finance Director……….submitting a grant claim form involving a 7 page financial document with bank statements and invoices to support
  • R&D Director………..testing of some new varieties [watch this space] and research on our new bottle size [also watch this space]
  • Marketing Director………quick catch up with web developer about progress of my new website, and with creative company about new labels for the new bottle size!

On top of that there are the inevitable stream of cold calls……’I’m just calling on the off chance that……’.

Bored?…………never!  All in a days work x
