Winter Warming Ideas with Posh Squash

by Claire Martinsen on Wed 05th Dec 2012 10:19

We are so, so proud of our Posh Squash here at Breckland Orchard HQ. Super-concentrated and super-delicious, our Posh Squash can be diluted with 8 parts water and is full to bursting with gorgeous, natural flavours. In other words, a little goes such a long way!

I’m sure that each deliciously quaffable flavour won’t be hanging around in your cupboard for too long, but whilst it is there, the possibilities within each bottle are endless!  We make three gorgeous flavours:

Plum and Cherry

Lemon and Mint

Rhubarb and Ginger

We are known for our experimental nature here – Claire and I are constantly coming into the office each morning with something else we have twisted, splashed and warmed to make something delicious and mouth watering! With the Christmas season coming up, this got us to thinking…why not a non-alcoholic mulled punch?!

I am not underestimating when I say that this is so, so good. How can a non-alcoholic drink taste so naughty and flavoursome? Well, we’ll let you in on some of our secret recipes…

Christmas in a Cup

(recipe makes 1.3ltr – enough for 4-6 people)

200ml Plum and Cherry Posh Squash

300ml Apple Juice

800ml Water

1 Cinnamon Stick

1 Whole Nutmeg

3 Cloves

Method

Combine our delicious Plum and Cherry Posh Squash, Apple Juice and Water in a pan over a low heat. Add a cinnamon stick, a whole nutmeg and 3 cloves to the pan. Replace the lid and leave for as long as you can resist so that the spices can infuse. Strain and serve hot. The fabulous, fruity flavour mixed with tastes of christmas spices makes a non-alcoholic mulled wine to die for!

It is the ultimate perfect recipe for Christmas parties to cater for drivers and the kids! However, if you just want to curl up on the sofa with a hot, steaming mug-full on a wintery evening, we won’t tell anybody if you don’t.

If you prefer your hot, non-alcoholic mulled punch with a little bit more bite, our Norfolk Hot Totty is a must…

Norfolk Hot Totty

(recipe makes 1.1ltr – enough for 4/5 people)

200ml Rhubarb and Ginger Posh Squash

600ml Water

300ml Orange Juice

Method

Combine the Breckland Orchard Rhubarb and Ginger Posh Squash, Orange Juice and Water in a pan over a low heat, and add a clove-studded orange for an even more Christmassy taste. Leave to simmer and infuse until you can’t wait anymore! Strain before drinking, and serve hot. Mmm… a heavenly kick of ginger, balanced with the tang of rhubarb and sweetness of orange. Hot, warming and deliciously tangy – our Norfolk Hot Totty is as heavenly as it is moreish.

For you chilli – lovers. . .

Add ½ tsp of finely chopped fresh chilli, or dried chilli flakes for a fabulous little kick! Strain before serving.

So there we have it, two delicious and mouth – watering recipes for the cold winter months! If you have enjoyed making these, just wait until we bring out our summer Posh Squash ideas! We’re full of ‘em!
