farm and deli showYesterday was Day 1 of the Farm and Deli Show – a three day Trade Show at the NEC.  Its a pretty monster show – sharing space with Food & Drink Expo, the National Convenience Show and also Foodex [a food machinery show]……..absolutely loads to see, do, smell and of course taste!

I always love the NEC as a venue for shows – parking is easy, access is easy and it tends to draw a very mixed crowd from all locations in the UK.  You don’t always see lots of people from Yorkshire for instance travelling down to Olympia, whereas Birmingham is much more accessible.

Shows are always long days, but its lovely to meet new customers, existing customers, food producer friends, and catch up generally.  Think kind of mega-networking event for foodies!

Brainfood factorySome of the stand-out moments from yesterday [for a variety of reasons]…………

Rhubarb and Ginger….It’s always exciting but also a little bit nerve-wracking showcasing new products at a show like Farm and Deli Show. But what a thrill that our Rhubarb and Ginger was the flavour that we sampled most of yesterday.  Comments and feedback that was so lovely that it almost brought a tear to the eye!

The Brainfood Factory ….Trade Show always have brilliant speakers/theatres, which to really embrace you’ve got to be at the show for more than a day.  The Brainfood Factory was ace  – fab speakers, great debates, good inspiration.  The picture above is of Jimmy Cregan from Jimmy’s Coffee who gave a very honest and frank presentation in the Brainfood Factory.

Jill from Keithley….I’d spoken to Jill on the phone a few weeks back, so it was so nice to meet her in person.  She came up to the stand, and told me that she’d found Posh Pop on the internet, had phoned me up to get stockists details and had then ordered some for her cafe.  She told me that she put them in the cabinet, and on the menu and was so proud of how good they looked, until her husband pointed out that she hadn’t actually tried them [I’m such a girl she said].  But she said they tasted even nicer than they looked, her customers adored them and they were flying off the fridge shelves. What amazing feedback…..and people like Jill are what its all about.

Cake……My friend Scott from Tiptree Patisserie kept me topped up with their lovely Carrot Cake and also Coffee/Walnut Cake – Yum!  If a girl is on her feet all day, and talking away then cake as fuel is always good.

Who are you?…Yeap, this was the ‘greeting’ from a sales manager of a much much larger competitor, who came up to the stand with words to the effect of ‘I’ve never seen or heard of you before, who are you?’……Really, what are you meant to say in response? Answers on a postcard please!  Luckily my friend Ross Bearman from Ross&Ross was standing next to me so could tell the man that we made awesome drinks, I was momentarily speechless.

Lovely Lisa ……My number one fan, and who’s affection for Breckland Orchard is only matched by my own

I stayed over in Birmingham last night, got lots of sleep ready for Day 2, and hopefully another busy day at the show. If you are coming to Farm and Deli Show we are on Stand F188.
