Labels, Olympic Medals and Posh Squash.....welcome to my world
I just adore the fact that no two days are the same at Breckland Orchard, it’s one of the joys of running my own business and its anything but predictable! Today has been one of those mad days that you get to the end of and think ‘Wow’.
I started the day making some tags for an internet order that had been received via our Big Barn site overnight. Catherine is getting married on Saturday and wanted to order some soft drinks for her guests. Could we deliver by Friday she wondered? Not a problem, and having got them packed and off to her today, they should be there tomorrow [Wednesday] and in plenty of time for the wedding. As a little surprise I made some tags to make the bottles add to the wedding atmosphere. Best of wishes Catherine and Mike!
Then there was a quick little interlude to get the mini-Martinsens off to school, before my friend Rosie came to pick me up at 9am to go to a morning workshop organised by Santander at their Cambridge Office. The speaker was Bryan Steel who was an Olympic cyclist….and who ran a really lively session which focussed on what businesses could take out of the discipline and focus that the British Cycling Team applied to their own [meteoric] rise in success in the early 2000’s. There were some great businesses in the room and I came away with loads [and loads] to think about.
It’s quite easy to get consumed by the business, and it was a precious few hours to take some time out and think holistically about what I should be focussing and prioritising over the coming months. Rosie and I also got to put the world to rights in the journey to and from the workshop, so it felt like lots of boxes got ticked! Thank you so much to Tracy from Santander for the invite x
Back to the office just after 1pm and having spent the morning looking at things holistically I was right back into the nitty-gritty of sorting our Posh Squash range. It was hard work…..but a job that needed doing and I can take a deep sigh now its done. If you’ve ever heard of the expression ‘swallowing the frog’ then it was one of those tasks [except I wasn’t doing it first thing]!
Mid afternoon I had to break off to speak to a friend of a friend who had some great advice about export. And that gave me even more food for thought. A new customer phoned up mid-afternoon and I had a long chat with her! Plus write a contribution for a friend’s book…….Multi-tasking gone crazy.
And that’s really been the day – drinks for a wedding, touching silver, getting inspired, getting physically stuck in, thinking about future plans, pinging in and out of the day-to-day……and that’s why I love what I do and why I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Welcome to my world!
