Speaking at the Menta 'Get Ready for Growth' Workshop
On Tuesday I heard the fantastic Bryan Steel speak, and today it was my turn to do the speaking. Menta – the enterprise agency based in Suffolk asked if I could speak at their Growth workshop. I hadn’t realised I’d be the keynote speaker – gulp!
Menta had a HUGE hand in getting Breckland Orchard up and running…..I remember taking my business plan to one of their advisors [the wonderful Leanne Castle] to get her to sense check it at the very start. I’ve attended most [if not all] of their start-up training sessions and they’ve always been there cheering from the sidelines. SO when they asked if I could speak at the event, of course I said yes.
The room was pretty full, and my speech lasted about 30 minutes. I talked about the journey of starting the business, the key milestones along the way, some of the learnings and mistakes! There were lots of questions from the floor afterwards, and I had lovely feedback from people which was lovely.
Jonathan Wingfield from Ensors then spoke about the importance of management accounts/cash flows in any start up – not just for internal use, but also for the bank/lending agencies.
Menta had then organised for representatives from some key agencies in the east of England to come along and talk about funding opportunities. For anyone who thinks that there’s no help around for new businesses would have been bowled over with the support/advice [and cash!] available to new and growing businesses in the area.
Met some lovely people at the event, learned some new things, and if I helped inspire a few people then all’s good!
