WIRE - Passion for Rural Business Conference February 2010

by Claire Martinsen on Thu 13th Jan 2011 07:35

I’ve been a member of WIRE ever since I set up in business.  I met the West Suffolk branch leader – Alex Parr – at a networking event, and became part of the WIRE family.  WIRE stands for Women in Rural Enterprise, and is specifically aimed at women running rural businesses………in that respect its really different to any other networking group or organisation.  The HQ is on the same site as Harper Adams University, which is the UK’s largest specialist land based university – having a team of rural experts on hand at anytime is fab. The Head Office team bend over backwards to make things happen and help – Polly,  Fiona  and Jaia in particular are absolute superstars.

But its the people that really make WIRE.  West Suffolk is an amazingly vibrant group – led by the very focussed Alex Parr.  The group has a breadth of experience, a variety of businesses [both services and products] but above all is really really friendly.  Going to a meeting feels like walking into a room of friends, and we often have to be ‘thrown’ out at the end of the night, because we are ‘yacking’ so much [that’s what comes from a room full of females].

Given I have had so much from WIRE, I am completely delighted to be putting something back, and will be speaking at their 2010 Spring Conference – called a Passion for Rural Enterprise.  It sounds a great line up of speakers, and I am looking forward to learning loads myself.

If you are going to the conference and would like me to cover a specific topic, then please drop me a line….I’d be delighted to hear from you!  See you there!
