Wayland Show 2012

by Claire Martinsen on Sun 05th Aug 2012 03:06

Today was meant to be Wayland Show, held in Watton…….but last night it had to be cancelled at the very last moment.  A major sewer leakage, which meant that the show had to be called off.  We were planning to be there in the Food Tent with our Breckland Orchard Posh Pop and got the news at 8pm last night that it wasn’t going to go ahead.

Just so sad – I know that so much work had gone into the show planning and to make sure it was to be an absolutely top day out.  Lots of friends are involved with organising the show and they must be absolutely gutted – Neil Lake, who had spent so much time making sure the ground looked perfect, Steve Jaggard  who had led the Marketing amongst others.

The Food Tent at Wayland Show has a local food emphasis – none of the big companies who go to all the county shows….just local Norfolk producers.  I am feeling for everyone who has worked so hard to  prepare lots of lovely produce for the show.  The show raises money for local charities – c£20,000 so there are going to be some big gaps left with its cancellation.  Sad all round.

Summer 2012 has been a bit of a disaster for many shows – Day 2 of the Suffolk Show cancelled, Great Yorkshire Show cancelled after day 1, CLA Game Fair cancelled.  Plus many more of the smaller local shows cancelled – eg Pymoor Show. Disappointing that Wayland Show has had to join the ranks.

Still……I get to have another day with the family today, and I am sure Wayland Show will be back bigger and better in 2013.
