You can't learn to swim by standing at the edge of the pool

The Mini-Martinsens are learning to swim….so every Friday we troop off to the swimming pool where they have their half hour lesson.  It’s a great skill to have, and I am really happy that they are improving and learning to swim the various strokes properly.

And to that end I think being an entrepreneur is much like swimming.  You can read all the books you like before hand, you can absolutely know what you are meant to be doing, you can buy all the gear, you can talk to people who have done it already etc etc.

But at the end of the day, just like you will never learn to swim by standing at the side of a pool, you will never learn to be an entrepreneur without actually doing it.  Without actually sticking your toe in the water.  Granted you aren’t going to be brilliant on day one, but with a smidgen of practice and hard work you’ll soon be floating.

So if you are thinking of starting a new business, then yes do all the landside research, but at the end of the day just get swimming!
