Lending a helping hand at Wayland Academy

by Claire Martinsen on Wed 03rd Apr 2013 12:15

Pip and spent last Tuesday at Wayland Academy helping out with some business advice and business coaching!  The entire Year 9 group spent the day doing a business event organised by the fab team at Inspired Youth.

The students worked on a project related to the tourism industry in East Anglia. It was a hectic paced day….so much to do, absorb, create and most importantly cost!  At every single stage there were plenty of mentors on hand to lend a listening ear, advise or help out.   What I personally found so great was that the students were encouraged to think as creatively and dynamically as possible  – and no entrepreneur ever succeeded by doing exactly the same as is already out there.  It was a great chance for the students to learn about team-work and how business is all about working with others!

I certainly never had a similar opportunity whilst I was at school – and the students of Wayland Academy were really fortunate to have had such an early glimpse of what running your own business would be like.  A great day had by all the mentors …..[and I know the students too]….if we’ve helped inspire one or two of them to start their own ‘enterprise’ then that would be the cherry on the cake!

Massive thank you to Matt of Inspired Youth for running the day so effortlessly
