Coffee and Calm at Catesby's

by Claire Martinsen on Mon 11th Nov 2013 11:38

Last week I spent a fantastic day on the North Norfolk coast at Catesby’s in Wells.  In a previous life, Neil [who co-owns Catesbys] and I had vaguely crossed paths and then when he and Jonathan opened Catesby’s  a few years ago our paths crossed again when they were looking for a boutique soft drink to sell in their gorgeous tea-garden.

And although we’ve spoken and seen each other briefly over the past year or so, we decided that we needed to put a date in the diary to have a ‘proper’ catch up!  And that was last Wednesday!  The diary was cleared and I meandered over to Wells to spend a few hours with Neil and Jonathan.

Catesby’s is their fabulous store in Wells, which is now available country-wide via the web………full of just gorgeous ‘stuff’, carefully chosen and curated by Neil and Jonathan.  Beautiful, magical kind of things….. if you have a peek at their website then you’ll know exactly what I mean!

The store was closed last Wednesday so I was treated to coffee, cake and chat at the Catesby’s HQ.  I love catching up with other business owners, and even though we’re not in the same line of business its amazing how similar everyone’s thoughts are.  The fantastic thing about running your own business is that you don’t have a ‘boss’ or someone breathing down your neck…….but that can also be the downside….not having someone to bounce things off.  Just talking ideas out loud can force a clarity that isn’t the same when you are just thinking in your own head.  Sometimes you can be just so busy running a business, that its hard to allocate ‘thinking time’…..but so glad that I did last week.  That time will be invaluable when it comes to planning what I’m going to do in 2014.  The three of us basically spent time brainstorming, thinking out loud, putting the worlds to right and generating new ideas.

And I left the calming world of Catesby’s feeling that I’d come away with ideas and buzzing with the infectious joy of Neil and Jonathan.  I want to try and bottle some of their visual creativeness for me [as well as eyeing up a few things from their store – Mr Breckland please take note]!

From one small business owner to some others – Thank you x
