Essex Food and Drink Festival 2014

Essex Food and Drink Festival 2014Just back from a busy weekend at the Essex Food and Drink Festival held at Cressing Temple.  The weather forecast in the days preceding had hinted at torrential rain storms, thunder and lightening…..but in the end the weather gods held up and with the exception of a very short rain shower both the Saturday and Sunday were balmy hot and gorgeous.  In fact perfect weather for enjoying some great food and drink….and visitors certainly seemed to lap up the carnival atmosphere.

DSCN1749The celebrity chef tent had a line up of Joanne Wheatley [Great British Bake Off], Daniel Clifford from Midsummer House, Tony Singh from The Spice Men and Ruby Tandoh [Great British Bake Off].  I didn’t manage to sneak off our stand to catch any of them – but did manage to catch a brief 10 minutes of Daniel Clifford……..I think he must have been filming a new cookery programme, because there was a  Channel 4 film crew in situ, and his session seemed to set up a TV episode. I’ll have to watch and see what emerges!

collage essex food and drink festival 2014We were in the Food Court area which was an enormous circle of tasty food and drink…..but there were over 120 producers there in total, so it was busy-busy-busy!  Our neighbours from Baytree Pizza kept us fed and also provided lots of laughs….and were kind enough to help us dismantle our stand at the end of the day [for which we will be forever grateful!]  The atmosphere was definitely party-esque…I think the sun made everyone feel in the party spirit.  We also had an amazing singer who sang set after set in the Food Court area…..she was a fantastic singer, and everyone sang along and you couldn’t fail to be happy [especially when she sang ‘Happy’].

DSCN1795Mr Breckland and the mini-Martinsens came along on the Sunday for a few hours, which was lovely.  The mini’s don’t often get a chance to see what I do, so I really liked being able to show them ‘Posh Pop’ in action.  There a  Childrens Cookery School as part of the Food Festival, which the Mini’s attended and absolutely LOVED.  They made Tagliatelle and where just brimming with pride when they got to eat it later.  [In fact it was so good we are going to make  them make it again, it was that good].

DSCN1811Lots of my ‘Foodie’ friends where there so it was great to catch up with them and chat.  Sam from Fielding Cottage, Brendan from Crush Foods, Jane from Hadley Ice Cream amongst others.

DSCN1754Dara has just joined Team Breckland, and it was her first show, and with the amazing setting, the special atmosphere and the magical weather she couldn’t have had a better way to start at Breckland Orchard [picture below shows Little Miss Breckland lending a ‘helping hand’

DSCN1806Thanks  to Ann for all her organisation and to everyone who made it a great few days

Thank you so much for your wonderful blog and I am so pleased you enjoyed the weekend. Lots of hard work but so worth it. And the weather held - how lucky were we. Best regards Anne
