Running a small business is a 24/7 hour role........

breckland orchard 99We’re just the other side of a Bank Holiday weekend – and I’ve spent three days of down time with the family…..just enjoying the garden, spending time together, watching films, pottering etc.  We all just needed that.

Over the weekend a few emails to Breckland Orchard came in – and so I just replied to those.  One of them came back and said ‘I didn’t expect you to be working today’ – which technically I wasn’t, but a quick email to clarify something didn’t really take any time out of my weekend.  Running a small business isn’t so much a job, as a vocation sometimes.  But if you love what you do [and I really do ADORE what I do] it isn’t an imposition.

I heard recently on the radio that the average person works for 90,000 hours in their lifetime at their job…….that’s a LONG LONG time.  There’s a lot of people doing jobs that they really hate and living for the weekends and holidays.

So…..although the realities of a small business is that its much more full-on than a regular job….being able to do something that you love and which is your passion is genuinely the best-est thing about running your own business too!
